I bought my 1993 SL 500 just over one month ago and as expected I'm absolutely smitten with it. I am so embarrassed that apart from driving it home (all of 2000kms. I bought the car in the UK but I live in Spain) I do not know what certain features are and how to operate them. The car did not not have a users manual and I can't seem to find one in English on the internet for this year and model. I bought a CD from ebay but it only contains technical specs and other irrelevant information. I would be so grateful if someone could advise me where I could get just a simple users guide or if someone has the same year and model, I would gladly refund the cost of a photo copy and postage.
The most urgent worry is that an orange warning light ASR is being permanently displayed, checking on the internet this is the symbol for traction control. Just one photo of many. The manual you can buy from the dealer.
They may not be able to source your specific year, but even a later year one is better than nothing. Less than 10GBP. 1) the knob - Not standard, aftermarket - do you have an additional alarm/immob by any chance? 2) the gauge is you fuel consumption gauge, shows how many liters/100km you are currently consuming.
In the US/UK its labeled MPG of course. 3) ASR should NOT be permanently lit, you have a fault possibly. Use the search tool with 'ASR' and also search for reading diagnostics codes. 4) that locks your door compartmens and the locker above it. Can't remember the sequence, try it out.
Later years (-96 on) do not have lockable door compartments but have airbags instead. I bought my 1993 SL 500. I would be so grateful if someone could advise me where I could get just a simple users guide In the US you can call MB (see the attached post) and request various types of literature. Like the Owners Manual, Service Manual, QuickTips, Service Manual on DVD, etc.
I am sorry I do not have a direct phone number for them. But they are open 8-8PM EST, M-F. In the USA call MB at 1-800-367-6372, 6, 4, literature department.
I would guess that if you visit the MB website in your Country you will find a Customer Service phone number for your location. You may also want to check eBay. Do a search on this forum for ASR. There is some great information from others with regard to defeating the system when using snowchains, etc.
