Hey group, 1st post here. Found this message that Peter (see below) posted back in 2001 and wanted to say a big thank you. Not sure if you will see this Peter, but just like to say thanks very much for your post. The batteries died on my wireless thermostat and there were no instructions or manuals from the previous owner of the property. My system is labelled 'British Gas WR1 Wireless System' which is the sensor by the boiler and the thermostat is labelled 'British Gas RC1 Wireless System' I came home last night at 00:30 and found the display had died and after spending 15mins working out how to replace the batteries l then spent till 2am browsing the web to find out how you get the two units to talk to one another. Random button pressing was not working!!! My search proved in vain as l could not come up with any posts to do with RC1 or WR1.

I went to bed with an extra duvet at that point. At 7am this morning l just searched for 'wireless system' AND 'british gas' and your post came up. Once again thanks it has been a life saver. Now l don't need to sit in a telephone queue to BG. I was looking at Peter Conways post on how to get the British Gas RC1 Wireless Thermostat to talk to the WR1 receiver. I have a similar problem to user g00ner in that the batteries in the thermostat have died. Unlike Nicholas I am fortunate enough to have the original instructions, so I replaced the batteries with new ones following the instructions, but the display on the thermostat is still blank.

My conclusion is that the thermostat is faulty and needs replacing. Am I right, or do I need to go through Peter's instrictions before the thermostat will show any display? Worked for a while. I followed these instructions with success, but the units again became 'unpaired' at some later point. However I can no longer get them to pair.

Both appear to be functioning correctly, i.e. Red and green light on the receiver and temp appears on transmitter. The receiver seems to stay in 'learn' mode, but is not detecting the transmitter when I re-insert the batteries (after waiting for screen to blank, holding just outside 1m meter, but within sight of the receiver, and batteries right then left compartments) OR the transmitter is not transmitting.

One or the other appear to be broken, can these be purchased separately or always as a pair and, if separately, any advice as to how I can tell which one is faulty?
