The Washtenaw County Bar Association operates a. Since its creation in 1982, the LRIS has served thousands of citizens by making referrals for a small prepaid fee to local attorneys and by providing information to citizens about alternative sources of assistance. Call 734-996-3229 and state that you need a lawyer referral. You will speak briefly and confidentially with a Washtenaw County Bar Association staff member about your matter to determine what type of lawyer you need.
There is a $30 administrative fee for the service which must be prepaid. You will then get the name and contact information of the attorney. The attorney will provide up to a 30 minute consultation. It may take two to five business days before you speak with the attorney.
The LRIS is not an emergency service. At the conclusion of the initial consultation, you and the lawyer have no further obligation to each other. Fees for additional services after the initial consultation of up to 30 minutes are arranged between you and the lawyer.
In January 2012 the Washtenaw County Bar Association (WCBA) implemented the Modest Means Program (MMP) to assist individuals who are not able to afford a full fee attorney but earn too much to qualify for Legal Services and other state supported programs. The attorneys on our panel have agreed to lower their rate to $75 per hour with a $500 retainer for qualifying clients for domestic relations cases only.
